THAAD or Terminal High Altitude Area Defense is the anti missile system the United States military is deploying to keep reign on the DPRK (North Korea).
Built by Lockheed Martin the THAAD has many technologies that keep it state of the art. According to Lockheed the anti missile defense system can:
Intercept missiles in the atmosphere of outside the atmosphere. While being so new, THAAD is still able to link up and connect with older and different misile defense sytems to act together against a threat.
Lockheed boasts it is so perfected that it has achieved a 100% mission success in testing since 2005. 100% is scary because this means without failures in testing, the THAAD system is bound to have a complication somewhere. All new technology goes through building and adjustments to fine tune their final product.
Basically this anti missile system is designed to knock missiles down before coming back to earth.
