Video: U.S. Launches 59 Cruise Missiles at Syria Air Base

59 Tomahawk cruise missiles were fired into Syria at about 0440 Syrian local time.  The target?  The Syrian air base that was the starting location of the jets that dropped chemical weapons just a few days earlier.  This is the first time the U.S. has struck Syrian government forces and acknowledged it.

President Trump, announced that it is in the national interests of the United States to prevent governments from using chemical weapons and to deter future acts of this nature.  With the standing of the United States’s word when it comes to military action has finally been restored other countries both enemy and allied to the U.S. will be better and more responsible partners because they know for sure the U.S. will act if needed.

Catastrophically, former President Obama had a very similar situation under his watch in 2013 and also promised military strikes if chemical weapons were used.  When chemical weapons were used and the American administration did nothing, the whole world was looking at the U.S. wondering what happened to that promise and severely lost and damaged some of its credibility on the international stage.

“Years of previous attempts at changing Assad’s behavior have all failed and failed very dramatically,” Trump said while announcing that he cleared the attack.  Already, the international community is praising President Trump for destroying the Syrian air base.  Even very quiet countries are coming out and speaking about how this strike shows what is acceptable and what is not.  Of course the only countries calling this aggression and an invasion are Russia, Iran and Syria.

U.S. Russia ties are now headed for even worse terms because Syria is an Ally of Russia who has sent in its own troops to try and protect.  The Russians don’t like this step from Washington and said,  “President Putin views the U.S. strikes on Syria as aggression against a sovereign state in violation of the norms of international law and on a made-up up pretext,” the Russian government put out in a statement.

Just because Russia does not like what happened to its Syrian ally, does not mean it did not let this happen and watch from afar.  The U.S. and Russian forces who are acting inside Syria have been flying and bombing all over Syria not in joint missions but on separate mission in the same airspace for over a year now and nothing has happened.  For that to be possible, the foes have set up a radio communications line to stay in close contact with each other, preventing their forces from attacking each other and causing that situation to escalate.  This channel was reportedly used to inform the Russians the U.S. intends to strike.

Russian TV today is broadcasting images of craters and destroyed Syrian fighter jets and bombers.  With the massive amount of destruction of of their allies airbase, Russia has shut down this communications channel, at least temporarily.  What that does shutting down communications says to the Americans is that were not going to attack you but were are not going to clear the air space for you either.  Which causes somewhat of a deterrence because the U.S. most likely does not want war with Russia and would prefer they have a de-confliction communications channel set up to prevent a Russian versus American fighter pilot situation.  This most likely is being worked out as you read this article.

Now the whole world has witnessed the United States is back as the superpower and will be conducting global police missions just like it has been since the end of World War II.  The globe has had the U.S. police the planet before and when it did, our plante was a much safer place.  This new strike in Syria, destroying the very same planes that dropped chemical weapons will never be used again, shows that the United States is now militarily serious.  The U.S. military made sure of that and because this was a limited but a proportionate response, they will most likely remain in the war but not any deeper than they were before.  It also must be stated that President Trump had many, many military options to choose from to attack Syria, and many defense officials have noted that the cruise missile strikes were one of the less destructive approaches.

As the nations across our earth watch the world class military of the United States end the dreams of one dictator, these nations and dictators who have poor human rights and are enemies of the United States will now be up against a military that is once again more ready to be used to advance its interests.  Just like the Iran in the middle east was “put on notice”, it seems enemies to the international community have now been “put on notice” as well.
